Job Summary

Lead complex development projects and provide strategic guidance to international organizations, governments, and NGOs across East Africa.

About This Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Development Consultant to join our growing team in Kampala. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading complex development initiatives, managing client relationships, and contributing to the strategic direction of our international development practice. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects across various sectors including governance, economic development, health, education, and environmental sustainability. You will collaborate with diverse stakeholders including government officials, international donors, civil society organizations, and private sector partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex development consulting assignments from inception to completion • Develop project proposals, work plans, and budgets for client engagements • Conduct high-level stakeholder meetings and represent MCDI at international forums • Mentor and supervise junior consultants and research staff • Ensure quality control and timely delivery of all project deliverables • Build and maintain relationships with key clients and partners • Contribute to business development activities and proposal writing • Support capacity building initiatives for client organizations • Prepare and present findings to senior government officials and donor representatives

Requirements

• Master's degree in International Development, Economics, Public Administration, or related field • Minimum 8 years of experience in international development, with at least 3 years in a senior consulting role • Proven track record of managing large-scale development projects (minimum USD 1M budget) • Strong knowledge of donor requirements and procedures (World Bank, EU, USAID, DFID, etc.) • Excellent analytical, research, and report writing skills • Experience in East African development context preferred • Fluency in English required, local languages an advantage • Willingness to travel extensively within the region
